About session 4 of the EAPM Conference | 1 July starting at 14:00 hrs CEST
Increased molecular understanding is transforming the prospects for health care, and molecular diagnostics are opening the pathway to a shift in healthcare strategy. Molecular testing has informed some major preventative public health strategies – such as the significant reduction in cancer mortality. This is the threshold of a new future in which emphasis will shift away from treating illness and move toward maintaining the health of the individual. Early diagnosis and personalised healthcare will have a central part to play, particularly in the cancer arena. The objective for all stakeholders should be to see discovery ‘hits’ translated into robust but affordable clinical ‘wins’ for patients.
#BigDataforbloodcancer | Big Data accelerate better and faster treatment for Blood Cancer Patients
The HARMONY Alliance is a European Public–Private Partnership for Big Data in Hematology that is capturing and mining Big Data on Hematologic Malignancies. Both projects of the HARMONY Alliance, HARMONY and HARMONY PLUS, are funded by the Innovatie Medicines Initiative (IMI). HARMONY unites more than 100 organizations from 18 European countries, such as medical associations, hospitals, research institutes, patient organizations, pharmaceutical and IT companies.
HARMONY uses Big Data analytics to accelerate the development of more effective treatments for blood cancer patients. Data are stored in HARMONY’s Big Data Platform, which has already identified over 70,000 anonymized patient records, making it one of the largest databases of its kind. Leading research teams are currently using this wealth of information to answer critical questions about Blood Cancers / Hematologic Malignancies that cannot be addressed with other methods. This is the added value HARMONY will bring to precision medicine for patients.
